Petite Goldendoodle Summer

The past few weeks have been a beautiful time here at High Desert Family Doodles. We’re raising two petite goldendoodle litters right now, and it’s quite the family affair. These petite goldendoodle mommas are Rosie and Choe, and this is fun because Rosie is Chloe's mom! While we’re raising these beautiful goldendoodle puppies, we’ve also bred some mommas and have a some upcoming litters. In addition, we’ve been doing health-screening on some of our upcoming moms in order to make sure we’re breeding healthy dogs and producing healthy pups. All this, plus the continual joys of cuddling, petting, licking, and wagging tails are making this a beautiful summer!

Arms Full of Puppies!

Chloe’s petite goldendoodle puppies are as cuddly as they come here in Central Oregon

It’s be a wonderful little treat to raise Rosie and Chloe’s petite goldendoodle puppies at the same time! Chloe was Rosie’s first puppy ever, so it just feels special to have this mother/daughter team caring for their puppies next to each other. They’re even getting to play with each other’s puppies. The warm-hearted part of me wants to believe that Rosie and Chloe know these two litters are deeply related, but I also know that there’s no way to know that. Nonetheless, that doesn’t keep the cuteness cascade at bay. This will be Rosie’s last litter, while it is Chloe’s first litter. Chloe’s litter of four goldendoodle puppies are around a week older than Rosie’s litter of seven goldendoodle puppies. Chloe’s litter will be going home in the second week of July, while Rosie’s puppies will go home later in July.

Cuddling with Momma

Rosie’s enjoying her cuddling time with her retirement litter of mini Goldendoodle puppies

Even though these two litters are only a week apart, Chloe’s litter seems so much more developmentally ahead, highlighting how quickly these puppies develop and grow at this point. We had a bit of a surprise with one of Chloe’s puppies too. We can typically tell if a puppy has a merle coat at birth. However, one of Chloe’s puppies - Rita - didn’t start showing merle in her coat until a few weeks after birth. These little nuggets are about as cheerful as you could get, loving every second they’re being held by kid and adult alike. We’re really excited about how both litters will thrive a grow.

Honey is sleepy

As Honey gets closer to her medium goldendoodle due date, she’s definitely taking more naps!

We also have some litters coming up too. First, we’re expecting Honey to give birth to her last litter at towards the end of July. We confirmed the pregnancy via ultrasound a couple of weeks ago, and she is definitely showing her puppy pooch. She’ll go in to have a X-ray next week for a puppy count, and then she’ll be on puppy watch. At the present moment, we’re focusing on getting her proper nutrition and care as she grows her puppies, and help her stay comfortable in the summer heat. After Honey, we’re expecting to care for another mother-daughter team of litters, this time being Yose and Nelly. Like Rosie and Chloe, this will be Yose’s last litter with us, and Nelly’s first litter. However, these litters will be larger-sized bernedoodles. We’re excited for this team, even though we expect both of these litters to be bigger than either Rosie or Chloe’s litter.

Patsy Loves You!

Our upcoming petite goldendoodle mom Patsy is friendly, cheerful, and caring. We’re excited to see her upcoming litter

As we get ready to send off some goldendoodle puppies and welcome other goldendoodle and bernedoodle puppies, we’ve also been doing relevant health-screening for our upcoming puppy parents. Patsy and Juno both recently completed their health-testing, clearing them to be goldendoodle moms. Plum, River, and Juniper - all hopeful future goldendoodle moms for us - passed their hip and elbow testing, leaving their cardiac, eye, and patella testing to go. Sadly, Penny did not pass her cardiac testing - she had a slight heart murmur - which disqualifies her from our breeding program. While that was tough news for us, it highlights the importance of having health-testing standards, and following them. As we discuss with all of our guardians, Penny will stay in her guardian home, and enjoy the beautiful life of a companion animal. Good for her!

This summer continues to be wonderful. It’s such a joy to be sharing this journey together as a family, and to see our children share their care and love with these puppies, and to work through hard, big feelings of saying goodbye to puppies which have a special place in their hearts. We also love seeing all the places our puppies get to call home, and the adventures they go on. Some enjoy ocean waves. Some enjoy mountain snow. Some have moved across the country. Some have traveled internationally. We feel like proud parents seeing their kids spread their wings. And we’re excited to see what is in store for these current litters!

Warmly,

Erin and Jay
